The mission God has given His church is to make disciples, therefore we will proclaim His message of salvation and show the love of Christ in our church, our community, and the world. In keeping with this core value, Waxhaw Bible Church hosts monthly Global Missions Nights. These are typically held on third Tuesdays, but please check the calendar or newsletter as we occasionally need to adjust to our guest speaker’s schedule. Below are highlights of several missionaries with whom we partner. More information can be found by clicking their profile pictures. If you join us on Sunday, be sure to pick up a monthly missions prayer calendar from the welcome center!

Matt & Erica Schmidt

The Schmidts, along with an amazing team, started Engage 360 in 2018 after being involved with urban and college ministry for 15 years. Realizing the potential for greater impact by serving the local church directly, E360 was launched to help Christians effectively reach their own diverse communities. Engage 360 is a ministry that exists to help train Christians how to have spiritual conversations in everyday life that lead to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. E360 has developed a simple, but effective training process that can be done through live, online, or small group formats.  In a culture that is increasingly moving away from biblical Christianity, there is a growing need for Christians to know what they believe and how to effectively share their faith with people from a variety of different worldviews. By engaging the heart and mind, Engage 360 seeks to see every disciple trained and the world engaged. Matt and Erica currently live in the greater Charlotte area with their five wonderful children.

Keith & Heidi Barkman

Keith and Heidi Barkman serve in Brazil with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They have two grown children, Tim and Hanna, and have worked for over 30 years in Brazil with a particular people group, learning the language and culture, translating the New Testament into their language, and giving informal teaching to the children. For most of their career there was little to no response to the message of Jesus. After the final read through of the whole New Testament, the handful of believers met together and decided to record an audio version first as the best way to publish the translation. During that year people began to respond to the message of the Scriptures and turn to Jesus. The audio recording was dedicated in August of 2019. By that time a church had been born with its own leadership and structure. Since then, the text was published along with the audio online in a Scripture app, found at scriptureearth.org. It also has been published in book form by the Brazilian Bible Society, with the first copies arriving in the village in January of 2020.

Wycliffe Bible Translators

Phil & Peggy Janofski

Phil and Peggy Janofski are serving missions through aviation support and medical resourcing at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw. Phil serves in the aviation research and development department using his CADD skills to draw, design, and simulate operation of airframe and power plant resources. These drawings are used to enhance safety, test new products to reduce maintenance time, and train future pilots and mechanics heading to fields worldwide. Prototypes are often produced on 3D printers to move the design process forward faster than earlier possible.

Peggy is the Director of the JAARS Health Services clinic. She oversees a team of front desk workers, RNs, a Phlebotomist, a Physician’s Assistant, and doctors as they provide health care for missionaries at JAARS and those transitioning to and from fields of service. Phil and Peggy have two adult daughters, Ashley and Brittany.
